How Our Brains Learn: Creating the Video
- Share the books you have read over the summer about the
brain and learning, particularly Teaching with the Brain
in Mind, and Brain Gym.
- Tell students that you want to show them a video made just
for them, but there are none available. It makes you frustrated
that you cannot show them a video about this particular subject,
so you hope they can help you make one.
- Create a fact board where students can post information
as they find it. Provide blank paper or index cards for information
gathering.
- Assign chapters of the books to different groups of students.
Each day have them rotate to a new chapter or book.
- If available, have students search the internet for information
on the brain and learning.
- When there is enough information, work together to categorize
the information, and decide in what order to present it.
- Decide on video images that can represent the different
ideas, including pictures, photos, claymation, and dramatizations
of them in the classroom or other settings.
- Create narrations, and have narrators practice, then videotape
them providing the information.
- Create the images, then edit the video together. Invite
others to see
the video, including other students, faculty, and parents.
