Infant/Toddler Total Learning Pilot Project - 2006-2007
ABCD (Bridgeport) HeadStart and Music Together™

During the 2006-2007 year, an infant/toddler pilot program at ABCD compared those participating in weekly parent-child Music Together, music and movement classes with infants and toddlers who had not participated. The domains of Communications, Daily Living Skills and Social Skills were assessed.

Comparative Percentile Rankings

Controls: Infants and Toddlers in ABCD’s Early Head Start program.
Total Learning: Infants and Toddlers in ABCD’s EHS program who participated
In weekly parent-child Music and Movement classes provided by Music Together.

  • Data was collected on all of ABCD’s Early Head Start children using the Interview Edition of the Vineland Adaptive Behavior Scales. The Vineland is a norm-referenced standardized instrument with reliability coefficients ranging from .83 to .92 for Communications, .83 to .92 for Daily Living, and .78 to .94 for Socialization Skills.
  • Data was collected by an independent medical student, who was blind to the hypothesis, the intervention, and the purpose of the pilot.
  • Mean Scaled scores were determined for each child and percentile ranks were determined according to the Vineland’s Percentile rankings as follows:
