In
Bridgeport, CT we are in the second year of a Total Learning
implementation. In Year 1, the Kindergarten training was developed
with formative assessment. During the 2007-2008 school year
a randomized control study will occur with 16 Kindergarten classrooms
receiving Total Literacy training, and eight of those also having
other additional support. Also during 2007-2008, the Grade 1
training will be developed with formative assessment. This pattern
will continue through 2013, with one grade added per year.
In Stockton, CA there are three schools
involved in Total Literacy K-8 implementations, one with the
full model and two others with modified versions. Two of these
are magnet schools, and the other is a public K-8 school. Up
to 15 teachers will be trained in each school.
In Princeton, NJ, teachers from the
four elementary schools have been working with Total Literacy
for three years. They continue to dig deeper, and the initiative
is supported by professional development workshops, and an embedded
coach on the staff who works with the teachers in an "on
demand" basis.
